Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Amphiroa is Amphiroa tribulus (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Bossiella chiloensis (Decaisne) H.W.Johansen.

Source of Synonymy
Johansen, H.W. (1972 '1971'). Bossiella, a genus of articulated corallines (Rhodophyceae, Cryptonemiales) in the eastern pacific. Phycologia 10: 381-396.
