The type species (holotype) of the genus Dasya is Dasya pedicellata (C.Agardh) C.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Polysiphonia biformis Zanardini.

Taxonomic note
The conspecificity between Dasya corallicola and Polysiphonia biformis is based on both Funk's (1961) statement and and examination of Funk's original material by G. Furnari (Furnari et al., 1999).
