Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Botryocladia is Gastroclonium uvarium (J.A.Murray) K├╝tzing.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Irvinea chiajeana (Meneghini) Cormaci, Alongi & G.Furnari.

Type Information
Type locality: In Dalmatia legit Vidovich [Dalmatian coast, Croatia]; (Meneghini 1844: 287) Lectotype: FI; (Afonso-Carrillo et al 2006: 279, 280) Notes: There are four sheets of the Meneghini collection housed in FI and there are five specimens on sheet #1. The upper left specimen has been selected as the lectotype of C. chiajeana (Afonso-Carillo et al., 2006: fig. 1).
