The type species (holotype) of the genus Phacus is Phacus longicauda (Ehrenberg) Dujardin.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phacus caudatus Hübner.

Type locality: prope Charbin in stagno, Manshuria borealis; (Index Nominum Algarum)

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), oval, elliptical, i.e., broadest at the middle, the sides curved and length:breadth generally 2:1 (Stearn 1973).
