Description: Non-motile, unicellular rods and oxygenic photoautotroph. Reproduction occurs by transverse binary fission in a single plane. Do not produce well-defined sheath layers. Contain phycoerythrin and photosynthetic thylakoids located peripherally. Require seawater for growth. Contain zeaxanthin, b-carotene and echinenone as major carotenoid pigments. The type species is Rubidibacter lacunae sp. nov.
