General Environment
This is a marine species.

Description
Exhibits the following properties in addition to those given in the genus description. Cells are 0.9–1.5 µm wide and 2.5–4.7 µm long. Growth occurs at 25–35 °C (optimum, 30 °C) and in concentrations of sea salts of 2–7% (w/v). Utilizes ammonia, nitrate and urea as a sole nitrogen source. In vivo absorption spectrum shows peaks at 548, 628 and 679 nm and a shoulder at 565 nm. Not capable of chromatic adaptation. The G+C content of the genomic DNA of the type strain is 60.5 mol%.
