Type locality: Itapeva, near Paranapoan beach, São Vicente, São Paulo State, Brazil; (Joly 1957: 135, 136) Holotype: Joly; 12 September 1954; zone of strong wave wash; SPF?; Joly 184-1954 (Joly 1957: 135, 136) Notes: Joly (1957: 135, 136) notes that the type material (tetrasporangial) is located in the Herbário ficológico do Departamento de Botânica da Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciêcias e Letras da Universidade de São Paulo.
