Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gracilaria multipartita (Clemente) Harvey

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), divided into many parts (Stearn 1973).
