Type locality: Solar evaporation ponds of Exportadora de Sal, Guerrero Negro, Baja California Sur, Mexico; (Margheri et al. 2008: 480) Holotype: Benthic cyanobacterial mats in heliothermal shallow hypersaline ponds along marine coasts; Moravian Museum, Brno, Czech Republic; BRNM/HY 1321 (preserved specimen) (Margheri et al. 2008: 480) Notes: Type strain: MPI 96P605, isolated by Garcia-Pichel (Garcia-Pichel et al. 1998); in Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology, Bremen, Germany; also in culture collection of ISE-CNR in Sesto Fiorentino, Italy; reference strain according to rules applied in bacteriological taxonomy.
