Type locality: "rade de Sainte-Croix" [Santz Cruz de Tenerife, Islas Canarias] (Bory de Saint-Vincent 1803: 305). Holotype: PC (Cassano et al. 2009: 87).

Adjective (Latin), pierced with holes or pores or sprinkled with translucent dots (Stearn 1973).
