The name Ulva latissima L. has traditionally been misapplied to representative of the genus Ulva with very broad, sheet-like fronds. The type is a kelp (see Silva, 1952: 295; Papenfuss, 1960: 303), now referred to Saccharina latissima, q.v.
European records of Ulva latissima are apparently referable to Ulva gigantea (Kützing) Bliding (Silva, Meñez & Moe, 1987: 94). - (1 Jun 2006) - Wendy Guiry
