Type locality: South Island, Los Coronados, Baja California, Mexico (Dawson 1953: 158). Holotype: Silva; Feb. 26, 1949; Lower littoral rocks. UC Silva 4880 (Dawson 1953: 158). Notes: Dawson (1953: 158) Isotype is in HAHF.
Origin of species name
Adjective A (Latin), saggitate, shaped like an arrow-head with two equal sharp basal lobes directed downwards (Stearn 1973).
