According to Babbini & Bressan (1997) this species is a synonym of Phymatolithon calcareum (Pallas) Adey & McKibbin.

Nomenclatural notes
The supposed basionym Millepora polymorpha Linnaeus, is an illegitimate substitute name for Millepora calcarea Pallas (Spencer, Irvine & Jarvis 2009: 253), and thus cannot serve as the basionym for this name. Accordingly, we have treated Phymatolithon polymorphum Foslie as a new name. - (16 Feb 2012) - M.D. Guiry
