Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Scinaia furcellata (Turner) J.Agardh
Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), tigone, thickening of angles [of cells] (Stearn 1973).
