The type species (lectotype) of the genus Rhodoglossum is Rhodoglossum lanceolatum (Harvey) J.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Mazzaella coriacea (E.Y.Dawson) Hughey.

Type locality: Punta Descanso, Baja California, Mexico.; (Dawson 1961: 257) Holotype: Dawson 97-45; April 8, 1945.; Tidal channels on the reef two miles north of Punta Descanco; UC; Notes: Type in UC fide INA (26.xii.2005).
