Type locality: 'Mari Rubro' [Red Sea] (Abbott & Huisman 2005: 151). Lectotype: Requien; PC (Abbott & Huisman 2005: 151). Notes: The type is illustrated in Abbott & Huisman (2005: fig. 1). Isolectotype: PC MA 532.

According to Børgesen (1952: 16, 20), the name Myriocladia capensis has been misapplied to this species by Dickie (1874b: 191) and Jadin (1935: 159)
