Nomenclatural note
According to Silva et al. (1996) the name Codium elongatum was misapplied to this species by Børgesen (1940: 72-74, fig. 26) and this same material was reported as Codium sp. by Børgesen (1946: 56-60, figs25-27). - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
Taxonomic note
Titlyanov et al. (2011), citing Verbruggen et al. (2007), note that Codium bartletti represents a morphological form within one of the cryptic species of Codium latum.
ESU (evolutionary significant unit), Codium cf. latum 2 included specimens (from Arabian Sea) attributed to no less than ten morphological species: C. bartlettii, C. bilobum, C. boergesenii, C. fimbriatum, C. flabellatum, C. gerloffii, C. indicum sensu Nizamuddin, C. latum, C. pseudolatum and C. shameelii. Considerable morphological overlap was found between these ten morphological species (Verbruggen et al. 2007: 248, 244). - (02 February 2012) - G.M. Guiry
