Taxonomic note
Athanasiadis (1987: 44) notes: %u201CC. lomation appears to be closely related to the Atlantic C. seminervis (C. Ag.) J. Ag., and judging from the treatment of this species in the British flora (Irvine & Farnham 1983: 20) as well as previous floristic accounts (Ardré 1970) the two algae should be regarded as being conspecific.%u201D However, Silva, Basson & Moe (1996) treat the two entities separately. Should they be regarded as taxonomically identical, C. lomation appears to have nomenclatural priority (M.D. Guiry, July 2002). Woelkerling et al. treat Fucus lomation Bertolini as a synonym of Cryptonemia palmetta (S.G.Gmelin) Woelkerling & al. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
