The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Gracilaria isabellana Gurgel, Fredericq & J.N.Norris

Type locality: St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands (Gurgel et al. 2004: 387). Lectotype: C (Gurgel et al. 2004: 387). Notes: Lectotype: Fucus lacinulatus Vahl: C (=Borgesen, 1920: 379, Nr [fig.] 366).
