The type species (lectotype) of the genus Callithamnion is Callithamnion corymbosum (Smith) Lyngbye.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Aglaothamnion scopulorum (C.Agardh) Feldmann-Mazoyer.

Taxonomic note
"This species was described by Zanardini (1846: 38) from Dalmatia (Croatia). Zanardini (op. cit.) himself considered it as close to Ca. scopulorum. It should be noted that Hauck (1885: 78 and 522), with no comments, considered also Ca. truncatum as a synonym if this species (see the note to the genus Compsothamnion at the corresponding entry)."
