This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Acrochaetium secundatum (Lyngbye) Nägeli.

Type locality: Devonshire, England; (Harvey 1833: 349) Type: On Ceramium rubrum; TCD; Notes: Torquay, [Wales?]; embedded within a mica slide deposited at the herbarium of TCD (0011750) (Clayden & Saunders, 2014: 226).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), with secund branching (Lewis & Short 1890).
