This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Vertebrata thuyoides (Harvey) Kuntze.

Díaz-Tapia, P., McIvor, L., Freshwater, D.W., Verbruggen, H., Wynne, M.J. & Maggs, C.A. (2017). The genera Melanothamnus Bornet & Falkenberg and Vertebrata S.F.
