Type locality: Shark Bay, Western Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 593) Holotype: LD; 49414 (De Clerck 2003: 183) Notes: Womersley (1987: 196) gives the following data: Type from Shark Bay, W. Aust. (Gaudichaud); in Herb. Agardh, LD, 49414 (the type sheet is without a locality but is the only C. Agardh specimen in LD).

Adjective A (Latin), forked; having a small notch at apex (Stearn 1983).

Taxonomic note
According to De Clerck(2003), Dictyota furcellata represents an extremely narrow Dictyota, probably restricted to the coasts of Australia. Its affinities with other species (e.g. Dictyota dichotoma var. intricata) need to be critically re-assessed. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
