Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Sargassum linearifolium (Turner) C.Agardh

Type information
Type locality: “western coast of New Holland”, (probably King George Sound, Western Australia) (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 684). Type: Menzies; BM (ex K) (Womersley 1987: 441). Notes: Silva et al. (1996) recommend consulting Womersley (1987: 441) for more information on the type locality of this species.
