Type locality: Chiichi-jima (Titi-jima), Bohnin Islands (Ogasawara-jima), Japan (Huisman et al: 259-260). Type: S. Sagawa; April 1933; SAP 15322 (Yoshida 1998: 784). Notes: Holotype is spermatangial (Huisman, Abbot & Sherwood, 2004: 261). Syntype localities: Bonin Island, Japan; Kotosho, Taiwan (Coppejans & Millar 2000: 323).

Adjective (Latin), thin, slender (Stearn 1973).
