Lectotype locality: Algeciras, Cádiz, Spain (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 737). Lectotype: MA Algae 1713 (Cremades & Pérez-Cirera 1990: 490). Notes: Silva et al. recommend consulting Cremades & Pérez-Cirera (1990b: 490) for further information regarding the lectotype of this species.

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), resembling a moss (Neal 1993).
