Type locality: Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA (Woelkerling et al. 2005: 495). Holotype: F.S. Collins collection C; iv.1889; just below low water mark. TRH C21-3518 (Woelkerling et al. 2005: 495).

Participle (Latin), vanishing, passing away, quickly disappearing or fadin, lasing only a short time (Stearn 1973).
