The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Fimbrifolium dichotomum (Lepechin) G.I.Hansen

Adjective (Latin), dichotomous, having divisions always in pairs (Stearn 1973).
