Type locality: Bantry Bay, Ireland (Hoek 1963: 60). Lectotype: Ellen Hutchins; BM-K 3551/60, n. 7, 8, 9 (Hoek 1963: 60). Notes: An isotype is in herb. Agardh (LD), n. 9325 (Van den Hoek 1963: 60).

Named for Ellen Hutchins (1785-1815), Irish botanist.
