The type species (lectotype) of the genus Dicurella is Dicurella fragilis (C.Agardh) J.Agardh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Sarcothalia scutellata (Hering) Leister.

Type locality: [Table Bay, Cape Province, South Africa]; (Silva & al. 1996: 293) Type: HBG; (Hommersand, Guiry, Fredericq & Leister 1993: 113) Notes: This type locality was first reported by Papenfuss (1940a: 220). [HBG, see Simons, 1983]. Collector : Ferdinand Krauss (Index Nominum Algarum). No locality is mentioned by Hering.

Adjective (Latin), shaped like a small platter.
