Nomenclatural note
New name for Monospora tenuis Okamura; priority for Anotrichium tenue (C.Agardh) Nägeli. "Anotrichium okamurae Baldock nom. novum. When Baldock (1976: 560) transferred Monospora tenuis Okamura (1934: 26), a species dscribed from from the Gulf of Hiroshima (Japan), to the genus Anotrichium, he proposed A. okamurae nom. novum due to the existence of A. tenue (see below). Maggs & Hommersand (1993: 181) proposed, with doubt, its synonymy with A. furcellatum; Kim & Lee (2012: 23) confirmed such a synonymy stating that: "...However, A. okamurae is not distinguished from this species [A. furcellatum] based on any morphological characters and cell size.". Verlaque et al. (2015: 242- 243), although recognized that A. okamurae was "...morphologically undistinguishable from the mediterranean A. furcellatum...", concluded that it was better to maintain A. okamurae as a distinct species." (Cormaci & al. 2023: 383). - (21 September 2010) - M.D. Guiry
Distributional note
This species was introduced into the Mediterranean (Verlaque et al. 2015: 243), perhaps by shipping; the initial point of introduction is unkown. It is now widely distributed in the Mediterranean. - (06 November 2015) - M.D. Guiry
