The type species (holotype) of the genus Porolithon is Porolithon onkodes (Heydrich) Foslie.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hydrolithon boergesenii (Foslie) Foslie.

Type Information
Type locality: Muaras Reef, East Kalimantan, Indonesia; (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 114) Lectotype: [Weber-van Bosse]; 22.vi.1899; no habitat data on type; TRH; A14-775 (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 114) Notes: Type: Not designated. Two cotypes collections are cited from Siboga Expedition Sta 91 and Sta 240. Isotypes are in Rijksherbarium Leiden. This type locality was first recorded by Adey & Lebednik (1967: 32).
