Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cryptopleura ramosa (Hudson) L.Newton
Type locality: Brest, Finistère, France (Silva, Basson & Moe 1996: 895).
Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), creeping, prostrate and rooting; arching and then rooting (Stearn 1973).
No synonyms are currently included in AlgaeBase.
Wynne (1989) regarded this entity as a protrate form of Cryptopleura ramosa (see also Maggs & Hommersand, 1993: 254-255); many literature records refer, however, to Acrosorium venulosum.
This is a marine species.
