General environment
This is a marine species.

Habitat
Epiphytic on various algae (e.g. Porphyra, Polyides, Dictyota, Padina) and on eelgrass Zostera; midlittoral to shallow sublittoral in sheltered habitats, also deep sublittoral (Brodie & Irvine 2003: 67).

Type information
Type locality: Glamorgan (Loughor), Wales (Brodie & Irvine 2003: 67). Isotype: [Erythrotrichia carnea, isolate J.A. West culture 4056 - see below] (epitype) W.W. Young; September 1805; 'on other Confervae on rocks in river near confluence with sea'. BM (Bourrelly 1981: 67). Notes: Epitype: Port Eynon (51º32'N, 04º12' W), on Laurencia sp., Gower, Wales, Great Britain, collected by Juliet Brodie, 5 September 1997; deposited NSW865944.
