Nomenclatural note
Athanasiadis (1996: 69) proposes the combination Pterothamnion abietinum (Reinsch) Athanasiadis but included both the basionym and the proposed new combination in synonymy with Pterothamnion crispum. This is contrary to Art. 34.1 of the ICBN and the combination is thus invalid. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
Taxonomic note
"Callithamnion abietinum Reinsch [taxon inquirendum]. This species was described by Reinsch (1875: 48, pl. XXIX, fig. 2) from Trieste (Italy). After its description it was no more recorded. Ardissone (1883: 79) listed it among the synonyms of C. plumula [sensu lato, because he listed among the synonyms a number of species now referred to different taxa]; De Toni (1903: 1400) listed it among the synonyms of Antithamnion plumula [= Pterothamnion plumula (Ellis) Nägeli], while Athanasiadis (1996: 69) combined it under the genus Pterothamnion as Pt. abietinum (Rein-sch) Athanasiadis, comb. inval., because proposed as a synonym of Pt. crispum [see Art. 36.1 of ICN (Turland et al., 2018)]." (Cormaci & al. 2023" 313-4). - (16 November 2023) - M.D. Guiry
