Taxonomic notes
Osmundea truncata is a distinct species, morphologically separate from O. oederi (Gunnerus) G.Furnari; for a detailed discussion of this see Nam, Maggs, McIvor & Stanhope (2000, as "Osmundea ramossima"); see also notes under O. oederi here. Guiry (1997) cites Laurencia platycephala sensu Magne as a synonym of this species, but many specimens passing under this name can be O. oederi.
