Nomenclatural note
Gracilaria dentata J. Agardh, the supposed basionym, is an illegitimate name, but this entity can be considered a new name (M.D. Guiry, 24 June 2002). Lawson & John (1987) cite this species as Polycavernosa dentata (J. Agardh) nov. comb. with Gracilaria dentata J. Agardh, 1852 as basionym. See remarks in Lawson & John (1987: 229). - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
