Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.

Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a taxonomic synonym of Cystoseira zosteroides C.Agardh

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), resembling the genus Zostera, a sea-grass.

This is a marine species.

Nomenclatural notes
Although this names is technically a later homonym of Fucus zosteroides J.V. Lamouroux, this latter name (q.v.) was illegitimate because of an unwarranted change of epithet, which allows the Turner name to be used.
