Syntype localities: Guadeloupe: Moule (Vieux-Bourg); Vieux-Fort (anse Raby) (Silva 1996-to date). Lectotype: H. Mazé; April; Collected on submerged rocks. BM (Gurgel & Fredericq 2004: 155). Notes: Lectotype: BM, largest specimen on sheet, Algae Guadeloupensis, ... in the Gracilaria foliifera folder, 57th 1st series, Monle [Moule?] Vieux Bourg (Gurgel & Fredericq 2004: 155).

Adjective (Latin), flabellate, fan-shaped (Stearn 1973).

General environment
This is a marine species.

Habitat
Intertidal to shallow subtidal; growing on rubble and on rocky shores, also growing in Thalassia testudinum beds.
