De Clerck (2003) notes that the synonymy proposed by C. Agardh (1920: 136), after examination of a specimen in Herb. Hornemann and later adopted by Børgesen (1932: 6), is rejected, as an authentic Forsskål specimen in BM was found to be conspecific with D. dichotoma (Hudson) Lamouroux var. intricata (C.
