Taxonomic note
"This species, very similar in morpho-vegetative characters to Spermothamnion flabellatum, distinguishes from it in showing polysporangia, instead of tetrasporangia, and in gonimoblasts without involucral filaments. T. capitate is rather rare in the Mediterranean Sea, where it was recorded from the Aeolian Islands (Italy) by Giaccone et al. (1999: 224)), Latium (Italy) by Adelahad & D%u2019Archino (1998: 112) and, as Spermothamnion capitatum Bornet [basionym of the species), from Algeria by both Bornet (1892: 323) and Feldmann- Mazoyer (1941: 360), and from Spain by Conde et al.
