Nomenclatural note
"This species was described by Meneghini (1844: 186) from Dalmatia (Croatia). Hauck (1882: 112) listed it among the synonyms of C. echionotum. The same conclusion was also reached by Ardissone (1883: 120) who examined authentic specimens of that species. Moreover, Ardissone (op. cit.) stated that, in his opinion, also C. dalmaticum (see above) and C. azoricum Meneghini (a species never recorded from the Mediterranean Sea) were synonyms of C. echionotum."
