Nomenclatural notes
Illegimate: superfluous. - (05 May 2007) - G.M. Guiry
According to Athanasiadis (1996:178, footnote), “The name Phycocelis reptans (P.L.Crouan & H.M.Crouan) Kjellman (1890: 81) cannot be used for this species because it is a later homonym of Phycocelis reptans Kjellman (1890: 81), selected by Kylin (1907: 41) as basionym of Hecatonema reptans (Kjellman) Kylin (1907: 41).” This statement in internally inconsistent and further nomenclatural investigation is required. Furthermore, the specific epithet, since it honours the brothers Crouan, is correctly “crouaniorum” (M.J. Wynne, pers. comm.). - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
