Type locality: Kvivig, Faeroe Is; (Womersley 1994: 48) Type: on "Conferva rupestris"; C; (Womersley 1994: 48) Notes: Dawson (1953: 32) notes holotype not designated, but represented by Lyngbye's original specimen in the Botanical Museum, University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

In Index Nominum Algarum the following is cited: Audouinella secundata (Lyngbye) Woelkerling, nom. prov.; 'If his plants are the same as New England plants (which, no doubt, will prove to be the case), Colaconema secundata ... will then be transferred to the genus Audouinella as A. secundata ...
