Type Information
Type locality: Not specified [" in den ostindischen Meeren, und vorzüglich an den Küsten von China" (INA)]; (Silva & al. 1996: 325) Lectotype: HGB; (Doty 1988: 188) Notes: Doty (1995: 243) notes that the type material for this species appears to be from an abundance of frond fragments found in the Esper collections housed in the Herbarium of Institut Allgemeine Botanik, Hamburg, Gemany (HGB). A fragment (numbered 34697) in the Agardh Hebarium at the University of Lund, Sweden (LD), appears to have come from thiis Esper collection. Physically, these fragments are poorly preserved but they are accepted as isolectotypes. The specimen illustrated by Doty (1988, fig. 23A) is in the Hamburg herbarium and was selected as the lectotype and the LD specimen is an isolectotype. [HBG fide Doty in Abbott (ed.) Taxon. Econ.
