Nomenclatural notes
Prorocentrum compressum (Bailey) Abé ex J.D.Dodge, included as a dinoflagellate by Stein (1883, as Dinopyxis compressa), Abé (1967), Dodge (1976, 1982, 1985) and others is a nomenclatural synonym of Tryblionella compressa (Bailey) Poulin, now accepted as being a diatom. The correct name for the organism described by Dodge (1982) appears to be Prorocentrum bidens J.Schiller. However, the name Prorocentrum compressum as a combination applies to a diatom. - (09 January 2020) - M.D. Guiry
New name also proposed by S.Carty (2014: 174) based on Dinopyxis compressa "Stein". - (10 October 2014) - M.D. Guiry
