Thermoleptolyngbya Sciuto & Moro, 2016

Holotype species: Thermoleptolyngbya albertanoae Sciuto & Moro

Original publication and holotype designation: Sciuto, K. & Moro, I. (2016). Detection of the new cosmopolitan genus Thermoleptolyngbya (Cyanobacteria, Leptolyngbyaceae) using the 16S rRNA gene and 16S–23S ITS region. Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution 105: 15-35.

Description: Filaments forming expanded blue-green mats on the substratum and large floating membranaceous aggregates in older liquid cultures. Under natural conditions, thalli live solitarily or mixed with other cyanobacteria and diatoms. Slow gliding motility on solid medium. Flexuous, indefinite length long, isopolar, unbranched trichomes. Each trichome individually surrounded by a thin colorless sheath. Inside the trichomes, cells 1–3.6-fold longer than wide. Cells usually 1.2–6.5 µm long and 0.8–2 µm wide. Parietal thylakoids. Reproduction by trichome fragmentation into short hormogonia without necridia. Allophycocyanin and C-phycocyanin rich. Typical of thermal environments.

Contributors
Some of the descriptions included in AlgaeBase were originally from the unpublished Encyclopedia of Algal Genera, organised in the 1990s by Dr Bruce Parker on behalf of the Phycological Society of America (PSA) and intended to be published in CD format. These AlgaeBase descriptions are now being continually updated, and each current contributor is identified above. The PSA and AlgaeBase warmly acknowledge the generosity of all past and present contributors and particularly the work of Dr Parker.

Descriptions of chrysophyte genera were subsequently published in J. Kristiansen & H.R. Preisig (eds.). 2001. Encyclopedia of Chrysophyte Genera. Bibliotheca Phycologica 110: 1-260.
