Nomenclatural notes
The suggested new combination Gymnodinium pellucidum (E.C.Herdman) Flo Jorgesen & Murray comb. nov. (2004: 362) was illegitimate as the name is preoccupied by Gymnodinium pellucidum Wulff (1919). Moreover, the intended combination is also invalid because the place of publication of the basionym is not fully cited as required by Art. 33.3 of the ICBN. The name Gymnodinium venator was proposed for the species previously named Amphidinium pellucidum E.C.Herdman by Flo Jorgesen & S.Murray. (2004: 1181). - (28 Nov 2006) - Wendy Guiry
