Taxonomic note
Moestrup & Calado (2018: 125-6) note, "Gymnodinium aestivale Skvortsov (1968, p, 86, pl. I, fig. 11), described from Manchuria, may be the same species. Skvortsov%u2019s drawing is reminiscent of Gymnodinium rarum, showing an epicone much smaller than the hypocone. However, his description does not agree with his figure, as he states that epi- and hypocone are of almost the same size." - (17 October 2018) - M.D. Guiry
