Nomenclatural note
According to Moestrup & Calado (2018: 83) '"Gymnodinium deformabile J. Schiller 1955, p. 34, pl. III, fig. 28", a provisional and therefore invalidly published designation, was described as differing in not being dorsoventrally flattened and in occurring in cold water (in a park in Vienna, Austria). The ecological difference suggests "G. deformabile" may be a different species [from Gymnodinium bogoriense Klebs], but this needs to be examined further.' - (16 October 2018) - M.D. Guiry
